Welcome to a special guest-edited edition of the Afternoon Delight. You'll see a version of this newsletter here and there when we happen upon the opportunity to sit down and chat with a few of the better people and organizations out there.
If you need a human to DJ your birthday this year, give Esther Park a call. Apart from her secret turntable superpowers, being a kick-ass music journalist in her past life, and an SNL skit writer in her next one, Ms. Park is the human leading Flow’s new Artists in Residence program — a way for some of the better creatives we know to bring their magic to the Flow buildings. Take it away, Esther.
Flow Trip: If you could make two artists from different centuries collaborate, who would you choose?
Esther Park: Leonardo da Vinci collaborating with Jean Michel Basquiat — imagine what sort of world they would create together.
FT: Tell us about your work with the Flow Artists in Residence Program.
EP: We were able to identify eight amazing artists from both Miami and beyond, from all walks of life in different disciplines (music, dance, painting, sculpture, etc.), and they will be living and working at Flow Brickell until the end of the year, with the goal of showcasing their works-in-progress during Miami Art Week at Flow Brickell.
FT: If you could show only one piece of artwork to represent humanity to a group of interstellar aliens, what would it be?
EP: Orange and Yellow by Mark Rothko.
FT: Best ways to support your local art scene?
EP: Just be present. Go to openings, meet the artists, ask for studio visits, create a relationship, but mainly — just show up.
FT: Three humans you’d want to host at your dream dinner party?
EP: Jack Dorsey, Fran Lebowitz, and RM from BTS.
Something to listen to from the desk of DJ Esta herself.
The Case of the “Dapper Man”
Yes, jewel thieves stole a bunch of priceless items from the Louvre last week. But more importantly, who is this man dressed up like he stepped out of a Parisian cab from the 1960s? Serious answers only.
A Recipe of Sorts
Esther says to thank her later for this meal. Get your favorite instant ramen noodle; cook it as the instructions state, but add 1/4 cup less water. Cook until the soup is low enough that it’s almost like a sauce versus a soup. Add mozzarella cheese.
In Town: Art Basel
