Welcome to a special guest-edited edition of the Afternoon Delight. You'll see a version of this newsletter here and there when we happen upon the opportunity to sit down and chat with a few of the better people and organizations out there.
Everyone has that song. One that is so closely intertwined with a place, a moment, a memory, it’s as if the melody is our own personal time machine or teleporter. That’s what we want for you this National Park Week (April 19th to April 27th): Not for you to alter the course of reality by tearing through the fabric of spacetime itself, but for music to connect you to a national park so deeply it feels like you’re there, even if you’re not. Or just skip the untested, questionably feasible technology altogether and go to a park to create a new memory analog (acoustic?)-style. We also have a, you know, normal website and app where you can find the park that fits your style (no quantum physics required). Whether you prefer to lose yourself listening to the gentle serenity of the sounds of nature or tap your toes to something a bit more metal, there’s a park for that.
What’s your jam?
Looking for something else? We probably have that too.
Whatever you do or wherever you go, keep your playlist to yourself. No matter how cinematic it makes you feel, you’re not going to win any fans for that niche indie artist you love by blasting their music out of a speaker on your backpack. Jammin' on a Thursday.
The parks after dark.
Drumroll Please… National Park Service Free Entrance Day
Starting off strong. Who doesn’t love a discount? April 19th is one of six free entrance days at national parks in 2025. Get out there.
Double Time… Go Birding
Speaking of getting out there, birdwatching in the parks is always a good way to get some use out of the old binoculars. Birding 101 in the Everglades on April 19th is as good a place as any to start.
The Triple Threat… Junior Ranger Day
Good things certainly do come in 3s. Young and young-at-heart visitors are invited to join us on April 19th for National Junior Ranger Day.
