If anyone has an extra “Ruth Wakefield for President” t-shirt, please send us one. Back in 1938, Ms. Ruth Wakefield — co-owner of the Toll House Inn from Whitman, Massachusetts, and certified dessert expert — ran out of baking chocolate. Some say what happened next was guided by the big guy himself. She grabbed a Nestlé Semi-Sweet bar, hacked it up with an ice pick, and folded the chunks into her baking dough. Miracles happen every day, and chocolate chip cookies were born. Her guests lost their minds, and lines started to form. Eventually, Nestlé caught wind of what Ms. Wakefield was doing and offered a deal: $1, a consultation with the chocolate makers themselves, and a lifetime supply of chocolate for the recipe. Not the worst trade in the history of the world. A little improvisation. A happy accident. A miracle from Massachusetts. Ruth’s original recipe lives on — you can find it here. We should offer these to all guests who stay at Flow Hotel when they arrive. Something to chew on.

Fact: Animals are crowdpleasers. The 12,000-year-old prehistoric humans behind these life-size animal engravings in Saudi Arabia must have thought so too. Picasso’s got nothing on those camels.
Shroom Sailing
Everyone’s bucket list is their own. And if paddling 26 miles in a mushroom kayak in the open ocean happens to be on yours, Sam Shoemaker might be worth giving a call. P.S. Let us know what he says.
