If there’s a tree outside your window or in your front yard, you’ve probably become pretty well-acquainted with it by now. Stop and think about that again — how many times you've passed by that tree or the days you used to climb it without a worry in the world other than "don't fall." Or stare at it while you think about where your copy of The Roots Issue is right now (at the printer with Ms. Lisa is the answer to that one). Maybe you’ve named it and told it all of your wildest dreams and deepest secrets, or maybe you've come to love the family of squirrels who now call it home with a newfound appreciation for its branches supporting others like it once did you. We’re not here to tell you what your relationship should be. However close you two might be, that tree in your front yard plays a bigger role in your life than you might think. Research has shown that hanging around these leafy plants can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, improve your mood, and even speed up recovery time during hospital visits. So next time you see you see a woody friend, don't be afraid to give it a hug.
