We don’t know a lot of geniuses, but Hayahisa Tomiyasu might be one. One day while trying to capture a photo of a sly fox from his window, he noticed a lone ping-pong table in the background of his shot. And for the next four years of his life, he documented that table. More specifically, he documented the local humans using the table in every way other than playing ping-pong. Don’t get us wrong, this is not an anti-ping-pong newsletter. And we’re sure Hayahisa Tomiyasu himself enjoyed a healthy game or two of pong over the years. But there’s something about photos of people using a green sports table for tabletop yoga, outdoor dining, a laundry line, and a skate rail that’s got us rethinking the location of our next dinner soirée. Maybe a baseball diamond. Don’t forget the potato salad, Mallory.
Something good: “By a Waterfall” performed at the Footlight Parade (1933).
This Week in Whales
The Whale Issue of The Flow Trip is coming out later this year, and the editor will be damned if she doesn’t interview a real-life Moby Dick if anyone happens to have that email. We’re hoping it goes a little something like this. But this would be cool too.
Be a Goldfish
Possibly the best news of 2025 is that we’re being graced with yet a fourth season of Ted Lasso. “If the Lasso way is wrong, it’s hard to imagine being right.”
The “W” in Warrior
There’s no question that women are warriors by nature. But items found in these medieval Hungarian grave sites suggest that fierce females may have played defense more than we think. Mulan would be proud.
