In the 1984 critically acclaimed film, The Karate Kid, Mr. Miyagi sure did have Daniel do the “wax on, wax off” thing a whole lot. Not to spoil the movie for anyone, but turns out it worked — young Daniel’s commitment to patience and awareness of the process put Cobra Kai on its back. More importantly, it provided Daniel with the confidence and self-discipline he was seeking. The belief in something greater than ourselves is nice but the practice seems to be part of the recipe that allows us to connect in a more meaningful way — at least that’s what Mr. Miyagi told us one late night at a dive bar in Reseda. The Practice Issue of The Flow Trip is out now, filled with things like how to practice gratitude, traditional artisans and their crafts, how to be a little greener, brain training games, and a whole lot more.
